What is automatic delivery?

Information for operating a simplified Degree Day Delivery System for Automatic Deliveries:

Fuel is consumed for heating based on how cold the weather has been and for how long. Knowing this, you can estimate when to deliver fuel to a customer. This system is based on a unit called a DEGREE DAY. These degree days reflect fuel consumption and for scheduling purposes are accumulated each season.

  • A DEGREE DAY is simply a unit for measuring how cold (or hot) it has been over a 24 hour period. Whenever the average temperature is below 65*, you have a degree day. For example, if during a 24 hour period the high outdoor temperature was 70*degrees and the low was 50* degrees, then the average temperature for the day was 60* degrees—halfway between 70 and 50 degrees. This is 5 degrees less than the base temperature of 65* degrees. Therefore, we can say that there are 5 degree days for the period.
  • All AUTO degree day systems have been carefully designed and upgraded to make them perfectly suited for all types of businesses or homes, large or small.

Each heating system is unique, burning different amounts of fuel on a daily basis, and your usage will be different than your neighbors. In order to determine your particular "burn rate" the tanks delivery gallons and the "k factor" must be considered.

G.A.Bove Fuels takes into account your tank size, usable gallons, and reserve gallons to determine your ideal delivery amount. For example, for 275 gallon heating oli tank the ideal delivery amount is 200 gallons.

The "K factor" is similar to the "miles per gallon" rating of your car. It is the rate you burn fuel taking into consideration weather conditions, personal habits, the historical usage of your house, the size of home, and age of your system, etc. The "K Factor' is calculated by dividing the number of heating degree days since your last delivery by the number of gallons needed to fill up your tank. The "K factor" can be thought of as "degree days per gallon caluclation", telling us how long your house can go before you need another delivery. G.A. Bove monitors degree days, fuel delivereis, and the k factor to ensure that you always have the fuel you need when you need it.
